The International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Mission is the “influence, encourage and assist societies throughout the world to conserve the integrity and diversity of nature and to ensure that any use of natural resources is equitable and ecologically sustainable”. As a Union, IUCN brings together the reach and capacities of a network of over 1,400 NGO Members and State and government agency Members working in all parts of the world, over 16,000 expert members of scientific commissions, and 870 Secretariat staff working in the IUCN Headquarters in Switzerland and in Regional and Country Offices worldwide. IUCN Water’s solutions for water management integrate three key business lines and has a project portfolio covering these issues:

  1. Implementing sustainable water resources management, e.g.
    • action learning for IWRM planning and implementation
    • building resilience to climate change
    • water allocation and environmental flows
    • biodiversity monitoring and action plans
  2. Building water governance capacity
  3. Natural infrastructure investment (Green Infrastructure)
